Landfill Cells Phase 3, 4 & 5 Capping Construction – Stanley Road

Located in the coastal City of Bunbury is the Stanley Road Waste Management Facility. The facility is a domestic landfill and transfer station that accepts recycling and waste disposal from commercial waste operators and local residents.

As part of ongoing closure works, our team was brought in to provide project management, landfill technical support, and construction quality assurance services during the construction of an engineered capping system for the Phase 3, 4, and 5 landfill cells. This included constructing a sand gas collection layer and installing a linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) geomembrane geosynthetic liner and a drainage geocomposite. We also supervised the final multi-layered soil capping cover layer and lined stormwater drainage channels.

Working closely with the stakeholders to resolve any construction or material issues promptly, the project team was able to deliver within the tight construction program timeframes. The final closure of these legacy landfill cells significantly reduces the future risks of gas and leachate impacting the local groundwater and allows these areas to be used for planting of vegetation to remediate back to a natural environment.
