Mine Accommodation Village

Our client, a blue-chip mining company, wanted to expand their mine in South Australia and required a brand-new accommodation village to house their personnel. They intended this village to be their best camp to date, setting new standards of living conditions for workers—consisting of luxurious three-bedroom containerised modules for up to 4,000 residents. To design this bespoke village on an accelerated timeframe to meet the client’s growth demands, we were appointed to serve as the design and engineering partner to assist a third-party contractor with the work.

We provided design and engineering services for the entire village including a mess hall, gym, pool, tennis courts, pathways and lighting, vehicle movements, and access. We worked on an accelerated design to hit regulatory approval deadlines. Our design also factored in green energy considerations to offset power and load restrictions.

The resulting low density, spacious living facilities include solar power and high efficiency natural heat pumps for hot water. Additionally, an important symbol of the traditional landowners in the region—a lizard—was included in the design of the central facilities complex.
