Establishing infrastructure and facilities for mining operations in a very short timeframe

Norton Gold Fields has several mining operations in the Kalgoorlie area supplying ore to the Paddington processing plant located to the northeast. When Norton Gold Fields set out to open their new Enterprise mine, the plan was to increase ore supply to the Paddington plant.

Our job? We were retained to provide the engineering design, procurement, and construction management of the mine infrastructure and associated facilities, including a maintenance workshop, admin building, car park, and services such as power, communications, potable water, fire water, and wastewater. With a very tight project schedule and operationally driven changes to the infrastructure requirements, we had to work closely with operations and contractors to lock down the scope and fast track project execution.

During the design phase’s scope management, we saw an opportunity to revise the maintenance workshops, a change which would improve long-term mine fleet utilisation rates. With our help, the project was completed to schedule and budget objectives, and the new facilities began to support the Paddington plant. The mine now produces an average of 110,000 ounces of gold per year.
