The Western Australian Government invested in the development of the Perth Film Studios to establish a world-class screen production facility capable of supporting film, television, and other screen-based productions. Located in Malaga, near the new Ballajura Station, the development was created to strengthen Western Australia’s participation in the global screen industry while diversifying the state’s economy and creating new opportunities for local communities.
Appointed as the electrical contractor under a design and construct arrangement, our team was responsible for the design of the project’s complex electrical services infrastructure including communications and security systems across the site. Working within a compressed delivery schedule, we contributed to the enabling works design package, helping expedite early project activities ahead of main construction.
Drawing on recent experience delivering large power supply projects, we supported the managing contractor during commissioning planning and programming. This included coordinating critical electrical infrastructure requirements and supporting the successful delivery of the facility. We also provided construction phase services to help with accurate implementation of the electrical design to align with project requirements. This included the implementation of a large-scale, 100-kilovolt-ampere solar farm to power construction activities, further enhancing the project’s sustainability.
Today, Perth Film Studios provides the infrastructure needed to attract major national and international productions to Western Australia. The facility is anticipated to generate significant economic benefits, including approximately $2 billion annually in screen production activity, while supporting the long-term growth of the state’s creative industries and broader economy.
