How does a detailed audit of energy consumption lead to substantial savings in both energy and dollars?
Reading Entertainment Australia Pty Ltd wanted to investigate if they could make substantial energy consumption reductions at their Belmont Cinema complex. Our short answer was yes—but how did we do it?
First, we completed an Energy Audit and provided specialist advice involving data capture, financial analysis, extensive data modelling, and efficiency forecasting. Our proposed solution featured the installation of a solar photovoltaic (PV) rooftop array. Subsequently acting as the building owner’s engineer for the construction phase, we designed the installation of a 100kVA inverter with integral transformer to ensure no direct current (DC) was injected into the network (compliant with the regulations at that time).
Finally, we completed a system performance and savings audit to quantify any financial and sustainability savings made in the 18 months that the system had been in service. We demonstrated a 10% reduction in electricity consumption over the year for Reading Cinema—equating to a savings of around AUD$31,000.
