Redcliffe Hospital Expansion – Digital Engineering
Created to meet rising demand for healthcare in the region, the Redcliffe Hospital expansion is a major project within Queensland Health’s Capacity Expansion Program. The redevelopment includes a new nine-storey clinical services building and 204 additional beds, along with upgrades to theatres, emergency care, birthing, endoscopy, outpatient consulting spaces, diagnostics, medical imaging, and pharmacy services.
Working with Multiplex and Hassell, we applied a digital engineering approach that allowed documentation produced from room data sheets to be completely automated across all disciplines, independent of whether the inputs were sourced from the client, architect or engineer. Using our nominated common data environments—dRofus and Autodesk Revit—supported by custom built tools and workflows, our team established a method to transfer data, notify changes internally, and link updates to internal design calculations or to external review and cost estimation.
This approach supported a smoother delivery process, with project teams able to deliver higher Level of Development deliverables earlier in the program. It reduced typical challenges with this process, supported budget confidence, and helped the team keep pace with compressed timelines. By embedding automation into information management, the project team is now better placed to deliver smarter, safer and more efficient facilities that respond to the operational needs of clinicians, patients, and visitors.
