Sheehys Creek Road Remediation

Severe bushfires in 2019–2020 caused widespread damage to the Sheehys Creek Road. Subsequent flood events between 2021 and 2024 triggered further landslides, leaving several sections unsafe and closed for use. We’re investigating the causes of these failures and developing practical, resilient design solutions to help Wollondilly Shire Council work toward reopening the road.

Our team is providing project management, geotechnical, and civil engineering services for the remediation of a four-kilometre Council‑owned road that crosses steep and complex terrain. The road is located within a National Parks and Water NSW Special Catchment and serves as an important access route into Nattai National Park and Yerranderie State Conservation Area.

We’ve worked closely with Council and other key parties, including National Parks and Wildlife Service, Water NSW, and the Rural Fire Service, to balance environmental constraints, safety risks, and operational needs. Our role has also included supporting applications for disaster recovery funding for this essential asset.

Our services include identifying and prioritising failure points, coordinating engagement, completing drone‑based 3D LiDAR surveys, undertaking geotechnical investigations, and delivering detailed remediation designs. We are continuing to monitor site conditions following major weather events to keep designs informed and responsive. Additionally, we have been providing construction phase support services to assist remediation delivery.

Once reopened, this critical section of Sheehys Creek Road will support safe and more reliable access for local authorities and emergency services.
