The Melbourne Cup Carnival draws more than 250,000 people to Flemington each November, creating one of Australia’s largest major event transport operations. For more than 20 years, we’ve partnered with the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) to help the horse racing event run safely and smoothly. Our team understands how people move around the precinct and what it takes to manage crowds arriving by train, tram, bus, rideshare, taxi, coach, and private vehicle. This knowledge helps us plan for safe pedestrian routes, reduce conflict points, and keep the surrounding road network moving.

Ahead of the event, we develop detailed traffic and transport plans in consultation with councils, agencies, and road authorities to align plans with regulations and support community safety. During the event week, our teams audit the temporary traffic treatments for safety and accuracy of implementation per the designs.

On event days, we operate from the onsite Transport Operations Centre, monitoring live conditions and responding quickly to emerging issues. By working in real time with key agencies, we help maintain access, manage peak crowds, and keep people moving. Our long-standing partnership with the VRC reflects our commitment to clear planning, strong collaboration, and a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
