Toowoomba Regional Council Flood Recovery Program
In 2020 and 2022, severe wet weather and flooding impacted the Southeast Queensland region, resulting in substantial damage to Toowoomba Regional Council-owned roads, drainage, and other civil infrastructure assets. The Council established the Flood Recovery Program to help with their efforts and engaged us as one of several consultants to assist with the delivery of this large-scale and complex program.
Our team’s role has been pivotal in progressing the Flood Recovery Program to a stage where construction works to repair over 6,500 kilometres of road across 100 culverts and floodways could commence. The Council brought us on early to complete the civil engineering designs for seven Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) betterment projects across the region. We produced detailed design services for numerous culverts, floodway, and road upgrades. We also assisted with the planning stages of the works. These included the development and improvement of local unsealed gravel supply standards and logistics, as well as the development of a water supply strategy.
The Council intends that these works will not only rebuild Toowoomba infrastructure but, where possible, also improve on and increase the resilience of flood impacted assets such as roads, floodways, and open channels.
