Townsville Monsoonal Damage Assessments and Technical Support

In early 2025, severe monsoonal flooding struck Townsville, causing damage to roads, bridges, and community assets. Townsville City Council engaged us to help with disaster recovery. Within days, our local team was on site, delivering rapid damage assessments and technical engineering support.

We worked closely with the Council to prioritise damage assessments, help secure Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), and accelerate recovery efforts. Drawing on our experience with DRFA and strong local knowledge, we compared recommendations against funding requirements and determined if they supported long-term resilience. As part of this, we assessed damage to sealed roads across designated zones and inspected key structures, including bridges, culverts, and community infrastructure such as the Rockpool. We also assessed the storm damage to community assets such as the Ross River pontoons, Alma Bay footbridge, Arcadia ferry access road, and a retaining wall on Hayles Avenue to determine funding eligibility.

By responding quickly to this disaster event, Townsville City Council has not only aided the recovery of their community, but also helped strengthen infrastructure against future disasters and support safer, more resilient communities.
