A central hub for civic life that lays the foundation for continued community growth

Buda City Hall & Public Library

The City of Buda Municipal Complex fosters community connection through several significant buildings, including a central library and city hall, the Buda Police Department, and a parks maintenance facility. Across the complex, we focused on creating welcoming, accessible spaces that support civic life and community use.

The crown jewel is the 55,000-square-foot (5,110-square-metre) citizen-focused City Hall and Library Building, which serves as a central hub for civic life and supports Buda’s continued growth. The facility’s design offers a sense of transparency, encouraging residents to observe, participate, and engage in the processes that shape their evolving city.

The central library is a flexible, open environment designed to evolve with the changing needs of Buda's residents. The new building expanded the city’s physical collection and supports a range of gathering spaces and digital resources. These areas transition from active public zones near the entrance to quieter reading and study spaces toward the center of the building.

During initial site master planning, we facilitated a series of meetings with City Council, the public, and city staff to refine a preliminary program and align it with Buda’s goals of transparent governance, customer service, and civic gathering space. The process established the key overall planning concept of a centralized public lobby connecting administrative office areas with the public library. Graphic space diagrams, shared in a design-thinking-inspired early deliverable, helped build alignment and captured the project's shared direction.
