Joint Air Defense Operations Center

Vital to monitoring and safeguarding the skies, the Joint Air Defense Operations Center (JADOC) operates as a 24/7 command and control hub, relaying critical information about airspace and air defense around the nation’s capital. Established following 9/11, JADOC initially operated from multiple temporary locations. With this new facility—and the command and control center at its heart—JADOC has consolidated functions into a permanent home and supports mission readiness with modern, integrated technology.

Inside the facility, U.S. Air Force and Army staff identify and track every aircraft entering Washington, DC. Given the importance of situational awareness and communication, the command and control room is visible to all staff offices and circulation pathways. Mission support personnel move in and out of the control room through direct, uninterrupted access points.

Since JADOC is part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the rapid capture and exchange of critical information extends beyond the nation’s capital. JADOC communicates real-time defense data across the country to determine appropriate air defense response actions.

As a critical link in the nation’s air defense network, JADOC’s new facility delivers a constant, coordinated response—24/7.
