Victoria Level Crossing Removal Program

Our growing cities strive to move people more efficiently and effectively and we’re always reaching for ways to improve safety with that movement. Run by the Government of Victoria, the Program is the largest of its kind in the state of Victoria's history with the aim to remove 85 level crossings in Melbourne by 2025, creating a safer environment for road users, enhancing pedestrian experience, and reducing traffic congestion.

Forming part of the North West Program Alliance, we're delivering a range of services spanning planning, engineering, and modelling inputs into option assessment and concept designs. We’re also providing ongoing planning and engineering support for new transport arrangements and links, such as new stations. Completed projects include Camp Road, Skye Road, Buckley Street, High Street, Moreland Road, and Bell Street.  Two new stations have now opened in Preston to replace the removed level crossings, which include solar panels, rainwater tanks, and LED lighting.

By removing these crossings, we’re creating safer roads, improving road traffic congestion, and making these crossings more accessible for those using public transport, walking, cycling, and driving.
