Acoustic services for a sustainable office refurbishment

Westpac occupies several floors at 275 Kent St, Sydney and was looking to refurbish their office space. To avoid having to move from their current building to a new one, refurbished floors would be converted to agile working floors with space to provide staff flexibility.

Our team was commissioned for the provision of acoustic services. One of the key features was the implementation of a sound masking system across all the refurbished levels to achieve internal noise criteria. The main challenge was to achieve the same acoustic performance for the refurbishment as the performance in the newly completed Westpac office at Barangaroo; however, in this case there were spatial constraints associated with a refurbishment project. We were able to achieve this by first conducting an acoustic audit of the existing office, then adjusting our acoustic brief to match the same performance for the new space.

Delivering on its sustainable vision, the project received a 5 Star Green Star As-Built rating which involved the achievement of three acoustic credits. Choosing low energy consumption elements and recyclable material where possible allowed for a community building with a small waste footprint.
