Larimer County Behavioral Health Center
Larimer County Behavioral Health Facility (LCBH) is a collaboration between Larimer County, the City of Fort Collins, UCHealth, and SummitStone Health Partners to transform behavioral health care and reduce stigma within their community. The county conducted a comprehensive community assessment, gathering input from key partners, including Larimer County Criminal Justice Services, to redesign how individuals with mental and behavioral health needs seek treatment.
Stantec partnered with the county and its stakeholders to design an environment that fosters healing, dignity, and connection. By integrating evidence-based design strategies, natural materials, and ample daylight, the new facility creates a calm, restorative setting that promotes recovery and well-being. Meanwhile, the campus layout allows for future growth to meet evolving community needs.
The design embraces the facility’s natural surroundings, with a direct view of a large outdoor area and Horsetooth Reservoir. Warm, rich materials create a soothing and therapeutic environment. Ample indoor and outdoor activity and treatment spaces for games, art, yoga, gardening, and fitness are filled with natural light and located throughout the facility.
The new LCBH sits on 30 acres of open space, offering inspiring, calming views of the Front Range and allowing for future expansion, including additional treatment, supportive housing, and community functions. The 56,000-square-foot (5,203-square-metre) facility addresses the urgent need for substance abuse withdrawal services, crisis care, and short-term residential treatment in Larimer County.
