Zero Harm Discharge Program
When a global apparel company wanted to achieve zero hazardous chemical discharge from all supply chain production, they brought in our team to help. To start producing sustainable goods by 2020, the client needed to develop a methodology that catered to their East Asia region and conduct a root case analysis for each of their supply chains.
We assessed hazardous chemicals including alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs) as well as perfluorinated and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) that hardly break down and can cause severe damage to aquatic ecosystems. Our team quickly started a detailed project by funneling down the scope, methodology, tools, and expected outcomes. We then developed a data analysis tool to evaluate wastewater data and the compliance rate of the chemicals and heavy metals. Currently, we’re still visiting the suppliers across China and Southeast Asia to complete assessments, develop action plans, and coach the factories on the required necessary improvements.
The tailored program and Stantec’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) services team successfully identified risks, developed future-focused solutions, and assisted the client in maintaining their commitment to produce environmentally responsible products.
