Noel Best

Principal

Photo of Noel

Noel has been practicing architecture for 38 years. Over the course of the past 13 years, he has specialized in the design of airport terminals and he has become one of Stantec’s most experienced and knowledgeable airport experts. He brings the experience and knowledge necessary to be a proactive contributor to his projects including the recently opened new airport in Nassau, Bahamas, the development of the Victoria Airport in British Columbia, and North America’s first P3 Airport in Iqaluit in the Canadian Arctic.

In addition to his usual role as design principal, Noel is a specialist in passenger flows and wayfinding. He’s exceptionally well versed in ensuring that the airport planning, material selection, and lighting design all support intuitive wayfinding.

Another element of Noel’s practice is his work with art in airports—both as a wayfinding aid and as a means to creating a distinctive ‘sense of place’. This involves an early integration into the design process—selecting key sites in the passenger’s progress, designing the spaces, commissioning the art work, and then ensuring the complete integration of art and architecture.
