As manager for the South Island Water group in New Zealand (NZ), Chris is ultimately responsible for the wellbeing and career progression of over 70 engineers across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, dams, hydro, and geotech specialisations. These teams work with local government, in international development, and in many other fields including irrigation, health, education, and defence—and it’s through a focus on mentorship and excellence that Chris keeps everybody moving forward.
Chris has mostly specialised—on the technical side—in the engineering and project management of water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. He’s worked on earthquake recovery projects, including the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (after the 2010 Christchurch earthquake) and the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery project (after the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake).
Chris is passionate about the development of future engineers through Engineering NZ and Stantec’s Young Professionals Group. On a smaller scale, Chris has a green thumb for veggie gardening, and he’s comfortable with a board whether it’s on the snow or through the waves.
