It's that time of year again... everyone's thinking of hockey!

Sticks on Rose 2016

This year marked the 10th Sticks on Rose Street Hockey Classic. Sticks on Rose is an annual celebrity street hockey tournament held outside of Stantec Regina’s former office on Rose Street. The event draws celebrities from the NHL, NFL, and TV, as well as local Roughriders, Pats, and other organizations. Our partners in the event are the Shooting Stars Foundation (Mike Sillinger, Jamie Heward, and Jordan Eberle) and 104.9 the Wolf.

This year, the event was held on Friday, June 24th, with official games and activities running from 11 AM through 4 PM. The BBQ pumped out burgers, 104.9 the Wolf played the music, and the sun was shining.

This is our Regina office’s main community fundraising event each year, and its success greatly depends on the hard work and volunteer spirit of our staff. Again this year, Jeff Jurzyniec coordinated the overall effort, supported by a team of seasoned volunteers.

Each year, more than 50 Stantec staff volunteer their time to help with behind the scenes tasks—from court and event set up to running information booths, pointing celebrities in the right direction, and officiating the courts. In fact, Stantec staff are involved from 7:30 AM to 5 PM setting up, running the event, and taking down the event infrastructure.

Sticks on Rose is a one-of-a-kind event in Regina’s community; the whole street is shut down between Victoria and 12th Avenue with hockey courts end to end across the entire block. The excitement is palpable, and the air is filled with the sounds of hockey, music, and the smell of BBQ.

If you missed it this year, be sure to mark your calendars for the next event—it’s a great opportunity to invite clients and colleagues down for a relaxing break.
