Stantec receives an accolade from Canadian Forces for supporting reserves

Our ongoing commitment to supporting our troops hasn’t gone unnoticed

Doing all we can to support employees who are members of the Canadian Forces Reserves is a nod to Stantec’s core value of doing what is right –a commitment that recently won us recognition from the Canadian Forces Liaison Council (CFLC).

On February 11, 2017, Stantec was awarded the CFLC Employer Support Award in the private industry category. The CLFC has been recognizing deserving civilian employers and educators who have demonstrated exceptional support for reservist employees since 1994.

Vikesh Malhi, a reservist and articling Alberta land surveyor pupil in our geomatics group, is currently on a six-month tour of duty in Lebanon for the Canadian Forces. He nominated Stantec for the award. Kevin MacLeod, a Managing Senior Principal in community development, says reservists like Vikesh have an excellent work-ethic and team building skills that make them a great fit for Stantec.

Vikesh, Kevin says, has excellent organizational, management, and problem-solving skills: “Reservists bring value to our company—it’s important for us to support and encourage them. They are very valuable, technically-skilled and detail-oriented.”

Kevin and Vikesh joined Shannon Parsons, Vice-President of our Environmental Services group, to accept the award on Stantec’s behalf at a reception hosted at Government House, attended by Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell.

This remarkable citation of merit is of great importance to Stantec. Receiving recognition for supporting the Canadian Forces is an important signal that what we are striving to do for our community is meaningful, says Kevin.

“We do whatever we can to support the armed forces,” he said. “It’s admirable that people like Vikesh can have that kind of commitment to their work and the military.”
