Supporting Our First Responders
As floodwaters began pouring into Calgary’s downtown core, the Calgary Police Service’s Administration Building lay in its path. Water filled the exercise area on the lower level, and the next day, our client called architect Enzo Vicenzino with an urgent problem. The hardwood floor was heaving, and the walls appeared to be buckling. Our client needed an immediate structural assessment, so Enzo brought in Pang Ng from our structural engineering team.
Together they visited the site and quickly provided a plan for cleanup and restoration. From there, Enzo brought in his architectural team, along with a structural, mechanical, electrical, and an environmental services team, to complete the necessary restoration and remediation.
Our architectural and structural teams were involved in the original design and construction of the CPS Administration Building in the 1960s, and now through the restoration, they asked Stantec to create a more modern space.
While the Calgary Police Service worked tirelessly to keep communities safe during the city’s worst natural disaster, our team worked to give them back an important part of their daily lives. One year later, that goal is within reach, with an expected opening in July 2014.
