Materials handling is one of the most frequent causes of injury in the workplace. It can lead to overexertion, musculoskeletal injuries, reduced productivity, and lost time from work. We discuss and review the legislative requirements for material handling, types of material handling such as manual and mechanical, materials handling hazards that include carrying loads that are too heavy, and the hierarchy of controls which can include eliminating the hazard.
