Radon Measurement Awareness Training

Classroom/Virtual Course

Radon is a radioactive gas that is invisible, odorless, and tasteless and is the result of a breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. In enclosed spaces, this gas can accumulate to high levels and become a risk to people living in their homes. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US. In Canada, radon concentrations are usually higher in areas where there is a higher amount of uranium in underlying rock and soil. This course provides radon information related to health effects, pathways for the gas to enter buildings, measurement in the short- and long-term, mitigation techniques, and Health Canada’s standards and guidelines.
