On the path towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7, ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, the most challenging and expensive solutions are required for remote areas. As the costs of renewable energy technologies decrease, opportunities arise for more costs effective solutions, using mini-grid networks. In this article, Léa Tatry, Energy Expert, contributes to the explanation of a new methodology, which only asks for geographical information to predict the electricity demand and size the least cost energy access solution.
