COP26 – What do you need to know

September 07, 2021

We recognize that to fulfil our promise to design with community in mind, we need to consider climate change in our project work

In November 2021, all eyes will be on the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP26) in Glasgow. Attended by political leaders and government representatives from over 195 countries, COP26 is the platform used to negotiate, compromise, and make decisions about climate change. The outcomes from the COP26 meetings will include commitments and subsequent actions from each nation that will collectively reduce global greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

The COP26 agenda encompasses GHG contributions and reductions specific to the global economy, how we conduct business, how we protect and utilize the environment, how we design and build infrastructure, and how we support energy transition. As part of the COP26 program, the hosting country sets the agenda for the conference. In this regard, the COP26 UK presidency themes focus on these areas:

From our early beginnings, Stantec has always provided client services in these areas. We continue to harness our Innovations Office and the expertise of our practitioners to develop platforms and technologies to expand our services to support our clients in their journey to reduce their GHG emissions and tackle their climate change goals.

Stantec has been recognized by Corporate Knights and CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project). By tapping into our 22,000 employees, we are developing innovative approaches and solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems. With climate change embedded across our business and projects, we are committed to giving more back to the communities where we live and work.

The best way we can support our clients is around the outcomes of COP26. In collaboration, we can identify services and solutions that support regulatory requirements and corporate goals related to COP26. Only by addressing climate change today, can we create the resilient and sustainable communities of tomorrow.

Stay tuned to our conference page weekly updates during COP26 and a summary of the outcomes.
