Alex Prance awarded ICE Wales Cymru ‘STEM Ambassador of the Year’

STEM Ambassador Alex has been recognised for his outstanding commitment and enthusiasm promoting civil engineering careers to our younger generation

Stantec is delighted to announce that Alex Prance, a Technician from the Cardiff office, has been awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Wales Cymru STEM Ambassador of the year 2019/2020.

This award honours an individual who has shown outstanding commitment to civil engineering by volunteering their time and enthusiasm to demonstrate the value of STEM subjects and inspire the next generation of civil engineers.

As a STEM Ambassador, Alex is passionate about sparking a fresh and inspiring perspective to STEM subjects with students of all ages. He has represented Stantec and the ICE Sixth Form to Careers Campaign across South Wales in a range of STEM engagement activities in both primary and secondary schools, including ICE Bridges to Schools and Pathways into Engineering presentations.

Pathways to careers in STEM can take many forms and it is Alex’s mission is to ensure opportunities are made visible to all students and that they are well informed of their options. Alex said, “My belief is that STEM can be for everyone and through my passion and commitment to being an ambassador, I will continue to highlight the exciting opportunities in this ever changing world of STEM careers.”

Alex was awarded the ICE Wales Cymru STEM Ambassador trophy and £100 prize money which he has generously donated to Newport Mind, a mental health organisation, to help support them during the COVID-19 period. Alex was also put forward as the ICE Wales nomination for the overall ICE UK STEM Ambassadors of the Year Award where he was highly praised by the ICE for his commitment and enthusiasm promoting civil engineering as a career to our younger generation.
