Effectively leveraging rail infrastructure to create dynamic, walkable, higher-density urban neighborhoods in Chicago
Chicago has long been a significant rail hub in the US. The city’s first raised “L” line started service in 1892. Since then, transit-oriented development (TOD) happened as a matter of course. Urban planner Todd Meyer looks at how TOD is shaping Chicago today, from density and development to equity and inclusion and investment and sustainability.

The Red and Purple Modernization Program is a $2.1 billion design-build project that includes a TOD plan for several parcels adjacent to the rail corridor.
