Build-to-rent and the race to net zero

April 20, 2022

Stantec’s Sam Davis speaks with Property Council of Australia about build-to-rent and the race to net zero

The new build-to-rent model offers affordable purpose-built residential housing for long-term renters. Instead of being sold individually to owners, the model focuses on residents’ experience, designed to cater for a range of services, including a concierge, tailored events calendar, and options to own a pet with flexible leasing while offering tenure security.

The industry is expected to offer 175,000 apartments at the end of this decade, could this new model become Australia’s sustainable choice of living?

Stantec’s mechanical section manager, Sam Davis, believes it’s inspiring to see how clients are working with this model to deliver sustainably focused residential projects.

“It is inspiring to be working with clients that are committed to quality assets that will stand the test of time. By taking a long-term view of their assets, these clients are demonstrating how build-to-rent offers a new model for sustainable, affordable rental.”

As companies maneuver in reaching their net zero ambitions, it’s important to understand how the building will operate to confirm we can deliver the most efficient electric system.
