Stantec and BBC StoryWorks: AI-driven flood modeling and its impact on flood prediction

When we combine engineering expertise with artificial intelligence, we change how we prepare for, respond to, and recover from life-altering weather events.
In this video, produced in collaboration between Stantec and BBC StoryWorks, we learn just how devastating a major flood event can be, through the lens of the historic 2021 Waverly, Tennessee, flood. It impacted 500 homes and 19 lives were lost.
Flood events like this led the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to Stantec and our Flood Predictor. It’s a groundbreaking digital solution that provides reliable flood predictions using machine learning.
With Flood Predictor in place, communities can quickly and easily understand their flood risk and increase their resilience to future flood events. We can’t stop the rain. But with AI, we can make our communities safer in the face of extreme rainfall.
