Stantec’s nuclear lead Jag Singh presents on small modular reactors and their role in the energy transition to the Canadian Global Energy Forum

Nuclear power has reentered the chat. This is after decades of being left out of the energy discussion. But as we press forward with the energy transition, nuclear is being eyed as a potential solution that can provide us with reliable power while reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. It can help us keep up with our energy demands while making strides toward our net-zero goals.
Recently, we’ve been seeing some nuclear developments in North America, especially when it comes to small modular reactors (SMRs). Amazon declared it was investing more than $500 million to develop SMRs that can sustainably power its data centers. And Ontario Power Generation is well on its way to the first SMR fleet in Canada.
As we continue to consider nuclear power as a piece of the energy puzzle, Jag Singh—Stantec’s regional lead for clean generation—is informing the industry on SMRs and nuclear power. He recently presented to the Canadian Global Energy Forum on SMR technologies, design considerations, safety concerns, stakeholder organizations, market economics, and more.
