Helping Indigenous students make their post-secondary dreams come true

November 13, 2020

Teaming up with Canadian organization, Indspire, Stantec has set up a new bursary supporting Indigenous students for the next five years

Indspire is a national Indigenous organization dedicated to the education of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people across Canada. Stantec has been supporting Indspire since 2012 through various sponsorships, youth career conferences, programs, awards, and more. We are happy to announce a new Stantec Indigenous Bursary under Indspire’s Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries, Scholarships, and Awards Program.

Since 2004, the Building Brighter Futures program has provided $115 million in financial support to over 37,500 students. The new Stantec Bursary will award $25,000 over a five-year period to Indigenous students who were raised in remote communities and are currently studying in the STEM field—that translates to one recipient of $5,000 for each of the next five years. According to Indspire, it can be predicted that approximately 90% of their awards recipients will graduate, with 89% of current graduates also currently employed post-graduation.

Knowing that over half of Indspire graduates have continued towards another post-secondary credential, it is our hope that this Stantec Indigenous Bursary will help students achieve their dreams of academic success. With Indspire reporting about 45% of employed awards recipients working in fields that support Indigenous people, we also know that investing in one Indigenous student not only benefits that one individual—it also benefits the greater community.
