Texas Stages Development of Statewide Flood Plan

Stantec is no stranger to floodplain analyses, having performed more than 60,000 miles of floodplain analyses across 34 states. And Texas is no stranger to extreme weather events, however, Hurricane Harvey’s costly destruction and other recurring, intense rainfall events have pushed the state to become more proactive.

Stantec, along with five other organizations, has partnered with the Texas Water Development Board to develop the first statewide flood plan. Base level engineering (BLE) floodplain modeling and mapping studies, utilizing two-dimensional riverine model development and flood hazard mapping, will define this effort. From rural to urban districts, equal access to this information will provide comprehensive flood risk understanding and preparation for the state.
