Building the low-carbon suburbs of the future
In the National Capital Region, Stantec’s Urban Places suburban retrofit strategy is led by Jason Beske and John Bachmann, who have helped plan dozens of walkable, low-carbon communities in the region.
They are supported by a local team to deliver services regionally and a national team of subject matter experts across a variety of urban disciplines.
Shifting markets, changing demographics, and new fiscal realities are pushing North American suburbs to rethink how they look and feel.
To help suburbs transform to meet the growing demand for urban living, we look at the context, opportunities, and challenges through various lenses—planning and urban design, real estate markets, economic development, mobility, fiscal impacts, environmental, political, community goals, branding, and others—to identify potential achievable options.
