Natural capital is a way of looking at and assessing how nature provides us with critical benefits. Recently, there has been a strong increase in demand for valuing natural assets as a way of supporting business decisions. Why? The World Bank estimates that the global economy could lose US$2.7 trillion by 2030 if certain ecological systems collapse.
For that reason, it is important to assess what we have in terms of ecological capital, understand its value, and use nature-based solutions to protect and restore natural services. Don Kempson, global Nature-based Solutions program lead, talks with Environmental Business Journal about these important topics.
