Resa Furey partnered with Goldcorp Vice President Lisa Wade to discuss how Goldcorp is aiming to improve upon “business as usual”

How? By enacting an aggressive Water Stewardship Strategy. Published in International Mining Magazine, this article focuses on the holistic approach was developed with the intended purpose of “improving water security for production; reducing costs; limiting impacts; and addressing stakeholder concerns while moving the organisation towards operational excellence.”

Though it plays a significant role across mining operations, water is a finite resource with numerous social, cultural, and environmental implications. As such, Goldcorp felt that efforts needed to go beyond simply managing this resource, to instead include stewardship—responsible oversight and protection. The ultimate goal of this newly implemented strategy is to safeguard water for current and future generations, and the actions taken now are proving to be an important step towards improving water governance.
