Metaphor in rebuilding Ukraine, changing campus housing preferences, and inspiring a design culture
Today’s urgent challenges may appear novel. The value of thoughtful design responses will endure. In this issue, we look at designers shaping buildings to meet fundamental desires: community, efficiency, and privacy. We have articles on rebuilding Ukraine with help from a design metaphor; how warehouses can adjust to logistics automation; and new tastes in student housing. Plus: takeaways from a roundtable discussion on an often-overlooked quality indicator: building longevity. This summer, the architecture, engineering, and design firm Page became part of Stantec. We hosted a conversation with our new team members on fostering a winning design culture in our Buildings practice.
