For generations, services, cultures, and ways of healing were separate for Indigenous people in Toronto. The new Anishnawbe Health Toronto (AHT) Community Health Centre brings them together.
Designed with Indigenous partners, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Two Row Architect, the facility is more than a health facility. It’s a place of belonging and cultural connection. It’s for healing and community. Services once spread across the city are now in one place. Together, they create a home for care that reflects Indigenous identities, traditions, and values.
The building’s design is inspired by Indigenous teachings and relationships to the land. It includes gathering spaces, traditional healing rooms, and an Indigenous Peoples Garden with medicinal plants. The facility follows the principle of Two-Eyed Seeing. It brings together Western medicine and Indigenous healing practices to support holistic wellness. More than a building, it represents Indigenous health, reconciliation, self-determination, and community in downtown Toronto.
