About Transmission Lines
We develop transmission lines from concept through construction with project experience in overhead (up to 765 kV) and underground projects (up to 345 kV). Focusing on best practice and best cost options to deliver your project on time and on budget.

Feasibility Studies/Probability of Cost Assessments
Overhead Transmission Line Design – Experience up to 500 kV DC & 765 kV AC
We’ve worked on new construction, rebuild, re-conductor, relocation, maintenance, and reliability projects using the PLS- CADD software suite for conductor clearance evaluations and structural designs.
- Conductor Design – experience with most conductor types (including composite core conductors), electrical clearance evaluations, and thermal ratings analysis
- OPGW/ADSS – new fiber additions or replacement type projects
- Structure Design – extensive experience with concrete, wood, steel, hybrid, or lattice towers
- Tower – experience with tower model creation based upon
LiDAR Survey Data
- Foundation Designs – anchor bolt, piers, piles, vibratory caissons, or direct embed
- DOT Relocation – markups for utility adjustment plans, utility coordination meetings, progress meeting attendance, line relocation design, and foreign utility coordination
- Customer Relocations – preparation of alternative designs and cost estimates, displays for presenting findings to customers, preparation of design, material ordering, cost estimating, and coordination during construction phase
- NERC assessment planning, remediation, and support
- Conditional Assessments – Stantec has the capability and experience in visually inspecting and structurally analyzing existing structures and foundations for new or existing conditions
- Extensive Storm Restoration – experience following major storms or disasters
- Avian preventative designs – experience with bird diverters, caps, insulation, spikes, nest relocation platforms
Underground Design – Experience up to 345 kV
- Performance of feasibility studies, overhead to underground conversion probability of cost estimates, and route selection
- New construction, upgrades, or relocation type designs
- Construction installations (e.g., concrete-encased duct bank, horizontal directional drill, etc.) and utilize CYMCAP software for cable ratings analysis
- Preparation of cost estimates (material and labor) for different routes, cable designs, or installation types
- Preparation of protection schemes for underground cables
- Grounding requirements and specifications
Construction Support
- Field review and coordination
- Material resolution
- As-built records
