Designing for busy US air travel

Explore how airport design strategies effectively reduce passenger stress

Holiday travel means airport traffic is at its highest. How can the design of an airport alleviate the stress on passengers?

The feelings often associated with flying tend to be dreary—especially when it comes to overcrowded airports. Between time spent waiting in line to check in and get through security to dodging other passengers in narrow corridors and waiting in a gate area that never has enough seats, there’s plenty that makes the flying experience less than ideal.

Our airport designers can explore ways to offer travelers something beyond the traditional experiences, including:

  • Pay-as-you-go extras like saunas, changing rooms, relaxation spaces, even places to sleep
  • Healthier restaurants and food kiosks
  • Personal care services like massages, manicures, or haircuts
  • Green spaces to promote relaxation
  • Fitness offerings including yoga classes, gyms, tracks for runners, climbing walls, and workout facilities
