The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) recently celebrated the opening of a new direct connection ramp from eastbound State Road (SR) 826/Palmetto Expressway to northbound I-95. This new connection provides major relief for daily commuters by creating a direct route, eliminating the need to navigate local streets. The new ramp was built and completed significantly earlier than the originally anticipated schedule. Stantec served as lead engineer and designer for key segments of the project.
The new direct connection ramp is part of the Golden Glades Interchange Improvements project, which will provide connectivity to six major principal arterials and limited access expressway facilities. The FDOT District 6 set out to improve travel along the interchange and provide a direct connection ramp from SR 826/Palmetto Expressway eastbound to I-95 northbound.
“This is the first major milestone we’re celebrating as construction continues on the Golden Glades Interchange, one of Florida’s most significant infrastructure projects,” said Juan Restrepo, major projects area manager, Stantec. “It’s been a pleasure working alongside FDOT District 6, the GGI Constructors Joint Venture (Halley Engineering Contractors & MasTec Civil), and all the designers, engineers, inspectors, and construction professionals who helped deliver this important infrastructure years ahead of schedule.”
