Stantec joined partners to celebrate the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which adds a new highway-to-highway connection at one of the busiest borders in North America between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan.
The Government of Canada funded the C$6.4 billion project to address the need for increased cross-border traffic capacity. This P3 initiative also involved construction of new Canadian and American port of entry facilities, and a new interchange with Interstate 75 in Michigan.
Together with its partners, Stantec supported the project from business case consulting to planning and technical advisory services. Services include environmental and stormwater management; electrical, mechanical, municipal, structural, traffic, civil and building envelope engineering; fire protection, code compliance consulting and commissioning; and LEED® and sustainability consulting.
Another key element of the project included consulting with multiple stakeholders such as the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, Canadian Border Services Agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Ontario Ministry of Transportation, Michigan Department of Transportation, Ontario Provincial Police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the City of Windsor.
