Greater Montreal’s commuter rail opens Anse-à-l’Orme Branch

Stantec’s team took part in the opening celebrations for the Réseau express métropolitain (REM)’s new Anse-à-l’Orme branch, joining thousands of riders who boarded the train to experience the service firsthand. 

This new branch, which includes four new stations, now connects Montreal’s West Island and downtown, bringing the network to a total of 23 stations and 64 kilometres (39.7 miles). This project enhances mobility for users across Greater Montreal by connecting nearly a dozen additional cities and boroughs. Stantec has been providing engineering services on the overall project since early planning stages.

This opening marks a significant milestone in the delivery of the REM, whose construction is progressing in several phases. The next and final branch to be completed will connect Montreal-Trudeau International Airport to the REM’s network. 

“This new REM branch significantly enhances mobility for residents in the west end of the island by providing an additional transit option,” said François Landry Latour, Stantec’s vice president of Transportation, Quebec. “A project of this scale and complexity is made possible through collaboration among teams to turn an ambitious vision into sustainable infrastructure that serves the community.” 

Stantec continues to support the project by providing engineering services for the development of the next REM branch. Once all phases of the project are completed, the REM will cover 67 kilometres (41.6 miles)  and include 26 stations.
