Discussing Stantec’s commitment to supporting the Arctic region and Canadian territories north of the 60th parallel, incoming president and CEO Susan Reisbord spoke to Engineering News-Record about the breadth of services we’re providing around energy, resources and mining, environment, infrastructure, water, and defense.
“It’s really an all-of-Stantec positioning north of 60,” Reisbord says, a stance that foresees strong tailwinds in the region, especially around critical minerals. “We’re already working across the full life cycle of mining with regard to critical minerals, and not just in North America, but also globally. We don't see demand lessening by any stretch for critical minerals. It is expected to double by 2040, and will triple for lithium in particular.”
Reisbord, an environmental scientist with an understanding of climate change impacts, has a particular awareness of the opportunities that might evolve for the region: “There would be mining opportunities that might not have been economical before, but because of climate change, you could now get to some of these resources, and it would actually be economical to mine them.”
