The City of Kelowna in British Columbia has announced plans to pursue a C$25-million upgrade of the Apple Bowl, an event and gathering space that has been part of the community for over four decades.
Stantec is leading design for the modernization project, working with Wildstone Construction, Populous, and a multidisciplinary team providing architecture, lighting design, landscape architecture, and information technology services as well as civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
The facility upgrade is a meaningful effort to enhance community recreation and attract high-performance sporting events. The goal is to better serve the City of Kelowna, its residents, and its visitors for years to come. Proposed improvements include:
- A new east grandstand adding an expected 3,200 seats
- VIP suites and broadcast-ready functional areas
- A new scoreboard
- Artificial turf field conversion
- New washrooms, changerooms, concessions, and support facilities to serve the addition
- Entrance plaza integration with the Parkinson Recreation Centre site
Once renovated, the Apple Bowl will continue to serve as a multi-use sports and event venue, expanding year-round community access and positioning Kelowna as a potential future home for a Canadian Premier League club. The modernization project would enhance the experience for sport partners, athletes, and visitors, while attracting professional, regional, and national events.
As the City evaluates the investment to bring this modernization to life, Stantec is advancing design development, permitting, and a complex project planning schedule while the venue remains an active space for the community. The project is subject to City Council’s approval of budget, and the final design will be informed by community input.
