Stantec receives Grand Award from ACEC-TN for CHAMPS

04/26/2016 NASHVILLE, TN; FRANKFURT, KY TSX, NYSE:STN

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee (ACEC-TN) held its 2016 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in March, 2016. Stantec won the Grand Award in the Mapping & Technology Category for the Community Hazard Assessment & Mitigation Planning System (CHAMPS) project in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Within emergency management, a critical factor in building resilience is integrating emergency operation capabilities and mitigation planning. Recognizing this gap, Stantec and Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM), in a multi-agency effort, developed the Community Hazard Assessment and Mitigation Planning System (CHAMPS).

CHAMPS is a secure, customizable, web-based information management and workflow application which links and stores all administrative, operational, and financial data from the time a disaster occurs through the completion of a mitigation project and into resilience planning. This system has transformed KYEM’s workflow management and has the potential to redefine the landscape of disaster management within the United States.

Stantec’s project manager for the CHAMPS initiative, Marc Pearson, says that with this system, “Stantec and KYEM have established the backbone for future resilience and mitigation work in Kentucky by developing a system rooted in academic research, but flexible enough for future needs. CHAMPS can change the landscape of disaster management and be utilized as part of a regional framework to broaden resilience planning.” Marc Pearson worked closely with colleagues Paul Vidal and Matthew Basanta on this initiative.
