Stantec ranked a top education architecture firm in the US

Celebrates 34 new projects opening this fall

In its annual report on leaders in the design and construction industry, Building Design + Construction (BD+C) magazine ranks global design firm Stantec as the No. 1 K-12 and No. 5 university design firm in the US.

The magazine’s “Giants 300 Report” also places Stantec as the No. 1 overall architecture/engineering firm and in the Top 3 in several other design sectors.  The rankings are based on reported revenues for 2016.

Stantec was credited as the top the K-12 school sector firm for designing technology-rich spaces that encourage hands-on, collaborative, and real-world learning experiences. The magazine called out Stantec’s leading role in designing for Career and Technical Education learning environments, such as Sterling Aviation High School in Houston, as well as its creative, flexible designs, including Lee Elementary School in Coppell, Texas. The firm’s award-winning work for the dynamic Frederick Middle School and highly anticipated Academies of Loudoun, both in Virginia, are among Stantec’s recent and ongoing projects.

“The K-12 sector is constantly evolving and it’s great to be recognized as a leader in the market,” said Tom Oehler, vice president and senior principal, Stantec. “We have been fortunate to design some of the most innovative education facilities across the country and we will continue to push the envelope to deliver the most inspiring spaces to our clients.”

On the university side, the firm was praised for its innovative science and technology buildings that foster interdisciplinary learning, including the new Yale Science Building in New Haven, Conn.

During August and September, students and staff will return to more than 34 new or renovated buildings for which Stantec has provided design services.  The buildings range from a new high school in Olathe, KS, to five schools targeting net positive energy rating in Myrtle Beach, SC, to a science and engineering building for The Ohio State University at Marion, to six elementary schools in Texas.

Stantec Architecture has continually been named one of the top design firms in the nation, including the No. 10 firm on Architectural Record report. The company’s multi-disciplinary education design team delivers on education buildings that serve as creative places where students eat, meet, study, socialize, and continue their learning outside of the classroom. Stantec has served schools, colleges, and universities across the globe.
