Steve Desrocher has joined Stantec’s environmental services practice in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). A senior contaminant hydrogeologist, Steve has 20 years of experience in the assessment and remediation of industrial, rail and pipeline sites.
Based in Mississauga, Steve will focus on leading multidisciplinary projects with industry partners and providing program direction. He will also drive the growth of the team in urban development and infrastructure, oil and gas, and manufacturing.
“I’m excited to join Stantec and I look forward to working with such a technically diverse group of people,” says Steve. “Working with this team gives me the opportunity to provide integrated environmental and design services to clients in a range of sectors including brownfield redevelopment, oil and gas and heavy rail. This has been the focus of my career.”
Before coming to Stantec, Steve was an associate and senior contaminant hydrogeologist at an environmental consulting firm in Mississauga. He holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental geosciences from the University of Toronto and a master’s degree in geology and geochemistry from the University of Calgary. Steve has extensive experience in site assessment and remediation programs in the private and public sectors, including the management of the environmental program for the West Don Lands flood protection strategy, and the establishment of the Canadian operations of a US-based multinational consultancy. In this role, he served as Waterfront Toronto’s lead soil and groundwater management consultant, heading up the permitting and monitoring programs for their soil and groundwater management soil recycling pilot facility.
“When it comes to brownfield redevelopment, Steve’s expertise is going to help put our environmental services team on the map in the GTA,” says Tereza Dan, managing principal of Stantec’s Environmental Services practice in Ontario. “He has already hit the ground running – leading a game-changing collaborative project with our community development team.”
