Corporate Knights honors responsible business

06/25/2020 TORONTO, ON TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec has been named one of Canada’s Best 50 Corporate Citizens for the eighth time by Corporate Knights. Now in its 19th year, the annual ranking acknowledges companies that implement responsible business practices based on environmental, social, and governance indicators.

Corporate Knights announced the rankings on June 25 via a virtual Corporate Citizen Gala to celebrate the Best 50. For 2020, Stantec placed 21 overall, out of the 273 Canadian companies ranked. Stantec was the top-ranked firm in the Facilities and Construction Services peer group. Companies with revenues over $1 billion were ranked relative to their industry peers and using publicly available information. Stantec was also recently named one of Corporate Knights’ 2020 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World.

“Stantec is once again proud and honored to be recognized by Corporate Knights for our commitment to positive environmental, social, and governance performance,” says Carrie Sabin, Stantec’s sustainability director. “Sustainability is a key element of efficient and profitable operations and essential to our project delivery model. We look forward to continued success.”

The leading corporate ranking of Canadian corporate citizenship, Corporate Knights ranks companies’ relative carbon and resource impacts, as well as employee, safety, diversity, innovation, financial management, “clean” revenue, and supplier performance.

Recent industry recognitions underscore Stantec’s dedication to building stronger, more sustainable communities. The firm was ranked number 3 on Building Design + Construction magazine’s Top 215 Green Design Firms and number 8 on both Engineering News-Record’s Top 100 Green Design Firms and Top 200 Environmental Firms. Stantec was also recently awarded an A-class rating within the world-recognized climate change index established by CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) for the second year in a row.

In 2019, the firm diversified the gender balance of its board of directors and executive officers, bringing the total female representation to 44 percent and 20 percent, respectively. Stantec was recently named to Bloomberg’s 2020 Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which tracks the performance of public companies committed to gender-data reporting transparency and advancing women’s equality in the workplace.

Stantec’s sustainability performance is summarized in our 2019 Corporate Sustainability Report, published on April 28, 2020 and found at: Stantec.com/sustainability.
