Stantec selected for roadway redevelopment and resiliency improvement project by Village of Indian Creek

10/27/2020 INDIAN CREEK, FL TSX, NYSE:STN

Leading global design firm, Stantec, was selected by the Village of Indian Creek, Florida to redevelop 8,500 linear ft. of roadway on Indian Creek Island. The road improvement project includes the implementation of resiliency measures to protect against future environmental conditions.

In addition to the roadway, Stantec will design a new walking trail and scenic improvements, including lighting that spans the length of the road. Landscape architecture elements will complement the existing environment while preserving the unique frontage of the local residential properties. The project also includes connecting the village to a public central sewer to replace the island’s septic tanks. The addition of sanitary sewer lines will reduce the environmental impact of wastewater and better protect residential property against sea-level rise.

Throughout the entire process, Stantec will work closely with the community and the village council to ensure residents’ needs and concerns are properly addressed.

“Our team is incredibly excited to design improvements for a community as unique as the Village of Indian Creek,” said Sean Compel, principal and project manager at Stantec. “Our goal is to provide a tailored approach that allows us to create functional solutions that also build on the islands already picturesque landscape.”

This project builds on Stantec’s history of providing community development services to Indian Creek. The firm previously developed the village’s master plan, working closely with the village council and residents to identify critical concerns and build consensus among the residents with regards to the key design elements of the proposed improvements and enhancements.

Stantec has an extensive record of successful delivery of roadway and neighborhood improvement projects throughout Miami-Dade County. The firm’s work for the Town of Cutler Bay conducting traffic studies and designing roadway improvements earned the Roads & Highways Consultant of the Year Award from the Florida Chapter of the American Public Works Association. In 2017, Stantec assisted the City of Miami Beach with the Palm & Hibiscus Island Neighborhood improvements project, which included the creation of design-build criteria packages and development plans for watermain and water service replacement, sanitary sewer line rehabilitation, stormwater infrastructure improvements, and roadway reconstructions.

Construction on the Indian Creek Village roadway is expected to begin in early 2021.
