Stantec confirms its commitment to International Development with two new hires

To support project delivery in the fields of climate change and sustainable energy, Stantec’s International Development team in Belgium is continuously focused on building its team of technical experts. This concerted effort allows the team to approach each project with the experience and know-how to service clients through all phases, from project inception to delivery, to monitoring and evaluation. A clear step in this direction, the team is proud to announce the addition of two new members, Senior Business Development Managers Ibrahim Akbayir and Xenia Cechina.

Ibrahim Akbayir has been with Stantec for three years, working as Business Development Lead in Turkey, with a focus on the growing the firm’s European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) partnership and energy portfolio of projects. In this role, he provided crucial input on the organization’s business development strategy and was responsible for all tasks related to the preparation of technical and commercial proposals. Taking advantage of Stantec’s global career opportunities, Akbayir has relocated to Belgium and will apply his experience in servicing developing communities in a new context, working on EU commissioned projects in countries outside of his native Turkey.

“Our International Development teams, based in Brussels, Washington D.C., and Istanbul, already work in concert with one another to maximize our global impact, but having Ibrahim transition from our Turkish operation will be a great way to leverage his experience working with an important financial institution to create even stronger ties and foster collaboration going forward,” remarks Christophe Leroy, Belgium Operations Director at Stantec. “We are confident that he will be an excellent addition based on his proven excellence in this space.”

Xenia Cechina joins the team with several years of experience in business development with EU donor clients in the environmental sector. In her new role, she will leverage experience in project planning, development, management, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as in business acquisition and development, to target opportunities to apply the team’s mounting expertise in the environmental space. Her five years of experience working with communities in the Western Balkans coincides well with the team’s continued focus in the region. Cechina’s experience and connections will provide a useful steppingstone for the team’s growth in Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans region.

“We are excited to welcome both Ibrahim and Xenia to the team and look forward to the value they will bring to our Belgium operations in supporting our strategic objectives,” adds Leroy. “Their extensive global experience in multicultural environments will allow them to easily step into their new roles. I have had the pleasure of working with each of them in the past and have been thoroughly impressed with the energy they bring to each challenge.”
